CASTORID Web Development

JavaScript/AJAX

As noted on the Technologies main page, you probably don't have to be concerned about the programming languages, server environments, and so forth that are used for your website. It's our job to make your website work without you having to worry about such things.

JavaScript is a computer programming language that runs in the browser on the user's computer rather than on the server. It is used to make drop-down menus appear, to cause images to change when the mouse moves over them, and to change a web page without sending a request back to the server, along with many other effects. Because JavaScript runs on the user's computer, it has been seen as an annoyance (pop-up windows) and even as a security concern. As a result, web browsers allow users to turn JavaScript off. Because of its usefulness in making web pages more reactive to the user, we make extensive use of JavaScript anyway. We are careful, however, to make certain that your website works whether or not JavaScript is enabled.

AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML) is a relatively new technique that allows web pages to interact with a server without downloading the entire page every time the user clicks a button. This can dramatically improve the responsiveness of websites, particularly if many users have slow internet connections. However, AJAX can be over-used. For example, some uses of AJAX can make it hard for users to bookmark a specific page of your website. At Castorid, we try very hard to strike the right balance for your website.

Castorids are members of the beaver family, Castoridae, which includes two modern species, Castor canadensis (the North American beaver) and Castor fiber (the European beaver). Extinct castorids include the Giant Beaver, Castoroides ohioensis, which lived in North America during the Ice Age. It reached 8 feet in length and weighed as much as 200 pounds.

Why 'Castorid'?

It reflects the name of our founder and chief developer, Joseph Beaver.
